I’ve been sewing since my teens and quilting for more than 25 years. My first quilt was an Eleanor Burns Quilt in a Day. Since I had a king size bed, it made sense to me to make a king size quilt. Go big or go home, right? That quilt was in shades of mauve and dusty blue (hello mid ’80’s!). Let’s just say my fabric tastes have changed since then!

I consider myself a modern quilter, with traditional roots. I’m the founder of the Baltimore Modern Quilt Guild and love speaking to different groups and sharing the modern aesthetic. You can often find me teaching at quilt guilds and quilt shows around the country.

I’m a contributing author to the book Classic Modern Quilts and a featured quilter in The Improv Handbook for Modern Quilters by Sherri Lynn Wood, and 50 Little Gifts published by Lucky Spool. You can frequently find my work in Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks Magazine, Modern Patchwork Magazine, Quiltmaker Magazine, Curated Quilts Magazine and QuiltCon Magazine.

Overgaard, AZ • www.quintessentialquilting.com
Cindy started quilting 1992 when her mother signed her up for a beginner quilting class in Ventura, CA. She was immediately hooked on quilting. She’s spent the years since then, evolving into the quilter she is today. Cindy considers herself a traditional quilter, but really favors innovative quilts which take traditional patterns and enhance them. She believes her strongest quilting asset is her machine quilting (all done on a home sewing machine). From the moment she starts planning a quilt, she starts planning the quilting. Making the quilt even more beautiful through the quilting stitches and designs is the part she enjoys most. Cindy has won hundreds of awards for her quilts in regional, national and international quilt shows, including the Houston International Quilt Festival, AQS Shows across the country, the Pacific International Quilt Festival, Road to California, and many more. Some of her most notable awards are Best of Show honors at an AQS show, as well as Road to California and PIQF (with Molly Hamilton-McNally in a duet project). Cindy teaches and lectures around the country, as well as teaching several on-line classes. She has also published two books on grid-based quilting designs: “The Grid Design Workbook” and “GRIDS: An Encyclopedia of Grid-Based Quilting Designs”. Additionally, she has authored various magazine articles on domestic machine quilting. Cindy is also an NACQJ certified quilt judge. She has been judging quilt shows for more than a decade and has even judged several national quilt shows including Road to California, Quilt Con, AQS Quiltweek Paducah, and The Houston International Quilt Festival. Cindy treasures her ability to encourage all quilters through kind, professional, and objective evaluations of their quilts.
