Lucy Boston Patchwork of Crosses

Instructor Chardel Blaine

Lucy Boston’s Patchwork of the Crosses quilt is filled with endless possibilities for fussy cut-ting and clever fabric placement. English Paper Piecing is an old technique made new with modern techniques.

With an assortment of fabrics that have motifs that cry out to be highlighted, along with calmer coordinates that allow the eye to rest, you’ll be on your way to a quilt that says, “Wow!” It’s the perfect portable project. We will start on a 4-block sampler that you can finish as a wall hanging – or keep going until you have a quilt like Lucy’s original 56-block beauty.

Class notes: Holding a quilt seminar on a cruise ship is a unique experience. Sometimes there are space and time challenges that prevent our being able to be “project oriented” and we must concentrate more on process. It is very unlikely that you will have an absolutely finished project at the end of a class. It is helpful if your expectations match these realities. But regardless of how far you are able to progress, our instructors are professionals—some of the best in the quilting world—and we know you will learn many new techniques and have a wonderful experience!
