It is appropriately named Crown of Thorns, after the starfish with the same name. Let me show you how quickly and easily this project comes together and how to achieve perfect points. Whether you choose to make this beauty in the vibrant colors of a coral reef or the blues and teals of the Caribbean water, it will look stunning. This elegant and functional table runner can be made in several lengths. It is shown as 20″x74″.

Pathways

Instructor Renee Fleuranges-Valdes
Pathway’s celebrates life’s twists and turns! In class you will create the center portion of Pathways, using my fusible technique for creating a quilt as you go design. No sewing machine is required during this one date class. Yes, you will need one to finish your top, but the piecing can be done while we are at sea, or at home. Learn my no sew technique for making this fun top. I will provide a line drawing as a guideline for the center of the quilt top and step you through pulling it all together.

Tropicolor

Instructor Pat Delaney

This project is a wall hanging using a beautiful tropical fabric. We will use a technique with watercolor pencils and stitching to create “shadow images” continuing the design into the solid fabric. Once the image is in place we’ll layer the quilt and use free motion stitching and color to finish up. You will end up with a quilt that can become a wall hanging or pillow and have a permanent memory of a fantastic vacation. This is a “kit only” class to ensure you have the right fabric to work with. The kit fee is $52.

Mermaids at Sea

Instructor Renee Fleuranges-Valdes
Mermaids can be found in folklore for hundreds of years. Spanish Conquistadors spoke of sightings of Sirenas during the 1400’s, African tribal folklore and art has celebrated Mama Water and Yemoja from before the Middle Passage and even the Irish tell tales of mystical creatures called Selkies who are half woman and half fish. So it is no wonder that modern day art, music and film are enthralled with the wonders of mermaids. What a more fitting place than to create your own, Mermaid at Sea. Join me as you create an underwater scene centered around a beautiful mermaid. I will provide several different mermaid drawings for you to choose from, along with other marine creatures and scenery that you can use to create your own underwater fantasy. We will spend the day using fusible web to create our fabulous masterpieces. Start collecting your water inspired fabric and let’s spend a day at sea, conjuring up images of our own modern mermaid tales.

Starlit Sky

Instructor Pat Delaney
The stars blaze in the tropical sky. Sparklers shine on a black sky for a visual reminder of this memorable quilt cruise and the many new friends you will make. Bright colors shine against a black background in any size you wish. Your kit will include enough fabric to make a lap quilt, and I will bring more fabric to make something larger. Assorted colors will be included in your kit for a variety of stars.

Class notes: Holding a quilt seminar on a cruise ship is a unique experience. Sometimes there are space and time challenges that prevent our being able to be “project oriented” and we must concentrate more on process. It is very unlikely that you will have an absolutely finished project at the end of a class. It is helpful if your expectations match these realities. But regardless of how far you are able to progress, our instructors are professionals—some of the best in the quilting world—and we know you will learn many new techniques and have a wonderful experience!
